"Every great story has a beginning. This one starts with a Boston Terrier named Tavi."
If you've ever wondered how Tavi's Treats got its name, you're in the right place.
Tavi wasn't just my dog—he was my best friend, my shadow, and the inspiration behind everything this bakery has become.
Before we go any further, let's get one thing out of the way...
It's pronounced Tay-vee. 😊
If you've been saying "Tah-vee," don't worry—you wouldn't be the first. Tavi had a unique name, and explaining how to pronounce it has become part of the fun.
He also answered to about a hundred nicknames anyway, so I don't think he'd mind.
Tavi was the sweetest boy, with a personality that was somehow both gentle and hilarious. His veterinarian lovingly described him as "sturdy," which was probably the nicest possible way to say he enjoyed a few too many treats. (I always thought he wore it well.)
If there was a sunny spot in the yard, that's exactly where you'd find him, happily stretched out soaking up the sunshine. And when he came inside, his favorite place wasn't on top of a blanket—it was completely underneath one. If you ever couldn't find him, there was a good chance there was a little Boston Terrier-shaped lump hiding under the covers.
He also snored.

Being close to his family was his favorite place in the world, whether that meant following us from room to room, snoozing under a blanket, or simply being nearby.
When I dreamed of starting my own bakery, there was never a question about what it would be called.
It had to be Tavi's Treats.
Because none of this would exist without him.
Tavi's Legacy
In January 2023, we said goodbye to Tavi after he was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive cancer that affects thousands of dogs every year.
Losing him was one of the hardest things I've ever experienced, but I knew I wanted his story to continue making a difference.
Every September, the month Tavi was born in 2012, Tavi's Treats holds a fundraiser to support research into canine hemangiosarcoma. My hope is that by raising awareness and supporting research, more families will have the chance to spend a little more time with the dogs they love.
What began as a bakery named after one very special dog has grown into a way to honor his life and help others.
